Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K

It’s the beginning of a new year and that means that it’s time to set some goals.

I always find helpful to write down in a piece of paper my resolutions and to re-visit them during the year to see what I have accomplished, what I’m working on and what goals have shifted… Remember that we are constantly evolving.

For 2015 I have many fitness goals: I want to complete my second Ironman 70.3, I want to run my 6th marathon and I want to race in a few half marathons, among them the inaugural Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K, which I’m extremely excited about.

When I first heard about this race I knew I was going to sign up right away. Why? Here’re some of the reasons:

1. I’ve always wanted to participate in an all women’s race because I’ve heard that they are extremely special and fun: amazing goodies, great bling and an all weekend party. Based on all the meetings I’ve participated with the committee I’m sure that this race will surpass my expectations.

2. The spring weather in this area can be described in just one word: PERFECT. So, why not take advantage of it?

3. The route of the Savannah Women’s Half will be around the city’s beautiful historic district, which I rarely get to run at. This route features the best of this magical town so I can’t wait to run through it streets.

An inaugural race, in a beautiful town with perfect weather… This is definitely a winner!

This race has also partnered with two great sponsors: Publix and New Balance.

If you live in the south and have a Publix near you I don’t need to explain you how awesome this grocery store is. If not, let me just say that this is a place “where shopping is a pleasure” (if you don’t trust me, check out what Buzzfeed has to say about it) Basically, a great store where you can find an amazing variety of produce and everything else you need in an extremely clean environment surrounded by the friendliest staff.

On the other hand, if you are a runner, you know how great New Balance is. They make some of the best quality running shoes and cutest fitness apparel, so look up for an unique race shirt in your goodie bag!

The Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K is on March 28th and, since we are less than 3 months away from the big day, I want to do a giveaway for a $25 Publix gift card… Who’s in? All you have to do is share with me in the comments what is your new year’s fitness resolution and I’ll be announcing the winner next Wednesday January 14th through here!

Come join me in what is going to be a memorable experience and definitely a highlight of your year:

  9. Just proved I can finish a half marathon. . Signed up for the Publix women’s half never having gone this distance. . My goal is increasing my speed as I go the distance!

  10. This will be my first half-marathon after 1.5 years sidelined from injury (& surgery) and then these last few months of getting back to running and training for half-marathon (my favorite distance to run). So my fitness goal revolves around running: first to run this half uninjured, and then to complete 2015 having run THREE half-marathon towards my ultimate goal of running three halfs and one full every year.

  11. My New Year’s resolution is to stick to a good workout plan that will keep me healthy and happy.

  13. Wow I have many goals. I would love to complete my first marathon and triathlon. Eat healthier knowing when to eat and understanding how to fuel my body by food instead of for pleasure (junk food). And overall just becoming stronger and more well rounded. Thank you Claudia!

  14. I want to be healthier. Right now I am doing Whole30. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” I’m doing this to honor Him! I want to also draw closer and closer to God and deepen my walk with Him! Happy New Year and God bless.

  17. To PR at the Publix half, to complete my first Olympic and half ironman triathlons, and to really just be consistent with exercise and cleaner eating. Glad to discover your blog!

  18. The RnR was my first 1/2. I’m signed up for #2 & 3 this year, Publix and RnR. Each one, I just want to be a little faster, a little stronger.

  19. My goal is to start out small. I will be walking more with my husband as we both have medical conditions that would benefit from being fit. As well I would like to eat healthier in the New Year as diet plays a big part in staying healthy. Good luck during your run, Claudia.

  20. Publix will be my 2nd half and my goal is to finish faster than my first. I also hope to complete a Spartan Race this year. I’m working on consistency and trying to stay focused!

  21. Last year was full of injuries and self doubt about my abilities as a runner. This year is about focusing on the foundations of my health and rocking some 5k’s and 10k’s. I’ll save my return to the half marathon distance for 2016.

  22. My goal is to give up any/all fast food and to start working out at home regularly. It is so hard to get back to it after having a baby via c-section, but I want/need to set a good example for my child.

  23. I am sick of sitting!!!
My goal is to GET UP and GET GOING!!!
