During the two years that I’ve been living in Savannah a couple of marathons have gotten my attention, specifically the Charleston Marathon and Charlotte’s Thunder Road Marathon.
At the beginning of October I thought that maybe I could tackle the Marine Corps Marathon and another big race within three weeks. First I thought about doing a marathon in California since I was there with Bobby but then I realized that Charlotte was exactly 3 weeks later, which will give me an extra week to recover.
When I signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon I was thinking I wanted to do it because it was the next big race for me to run in the U.S.A.
Living in Savannah where there’s a big military presence I’ve naturally became friends with a lot of people who serve this country and also with some army wives. I have a lot of respect for them because on my long runs I’ve gotten to know all the sacrifice their families go through so all of us can live in a free country.
Long story short, to me this marathon was a personal challenge but also a way to thank this people for what they do every day.
Two more weeks of training, family time and work are behind me.
These past weeks I’ve been focusing a lot on my running and recovery (a.k.a massage, foam rolling, stretching, sleep). I feel my nutrition hasn’t been the best so I’m going to really work hard on that during the rest of the year but especially the next 3 weeks building up to my marathon.
Another 2 weeks of training in the books, which means that in only 5 weeks I’ll be reunited with my mom running my 6th marathon!
I’m super excited because my mom has never been to any of my marathons and having her by my side will motivate me and give me strength!
These past 2 weeks have been fun. We went to L.A. to see my dear mother-in-law competing on the first night of Dancing With The Stars! We had a blast and if you want to join the fun tune in tomorrow at 8pm EST on abc and don’t forget to vote!
These past 2 weeks have been pretty intense. They’ve been filled with laughs and tears… It’s crazy how life can change in an instant and take away from us people we love. That’s why we need to cherish every second and keep beautiful memories in our minds because that’s the only thing that nobody can take away from us.
On another note, Bobby and I’ve been home hanging out with friends, spending time with his family and cooking a lot.
Last week I conquered my fear of running 18 miles! Last time I ran that far was back in November at the NYC Marathon but now that it’s behind me I can reassure to myself that everything is possible.
Surprisingly I felt great during the long run, which in part I attribute it to the weather since I was in California. We were there for a few days because Bobby was working and then I came home because I was hosting a shower for my sweet sister-in-law to be 🙂
Another week has passed and, even though I didn’t get in all the miles I was supposed to run, I prioritized my “options” and got to spend a lot of quality time with my family.
Bobby was out of town the first half of the week so my parents helped me with some work stuff, they came over for dinner, we exercised, went out to eat, etc. They are gone now and that makes me sad but at least we created great memories over the past 3 weeks and that’s something nobody can take away from us.
And I’m back!!!
These past weeks have been super busy (in a great way!) between family visiting, traveling and working on some new projects 🙂
What an AMAZING week ends today… These past days were filled with joy, happiness and great accomplishments!
There were 4 events in the past 7 days that completely filled my heart with joy:
Week 3 of marathon training is in the books!
These days were pretty busy settling down back in the house: lots of laundry, cleaning, working (new great project coming up soon!), etc.
I was really excited about our first session of Run, bootcamp, run (lululemon Savannah’s new run club) that I’m leading with a friend, but it rained. This is something I’ve always wanted to do: create and lead a free running club for the community I live in! The kick-off will be this Wednesday at 6 p.m. so if you live nearby definitely come check it out!
