2016 PUBLIX SAVANNAH WOMEN’S HALF

The 2016 Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon is now in the books, and what a great race it was! It marked my 13th 13.1-mile race and was also my debut as a pacer. As I shared before, I was very nervous but at the same time really excited to be the 2:30 pacer. It was my first time having this responsibility and I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Update on my training: Publix Savannah Women’s Half!

The 2nd Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon & 5k is in less than a week, which means that most runners should’ve been training for a while now.

When I’m training for a half or full marathon I usually run 4 times a week: a couple of easy/recovery runs, a speed/tempo run and a long run. I also like adding some yoga and cross-training in the mix to avoid injuries and strengthen different muscles.

Charlotte’s Thunder Road Marathon 2015

During the two years that I’ve been living in Savannah a couple of marathons have gotten my attention, specifically the Charleston Marathon and Charlotte’s Thunder Road Marathon.

At the beginning of October I thought that maybe I could tackle the Marine Corps Marathon and another big race within three weeks. First I thought about doing a marathon in California since I was there with Bobby but then I realized that Charlotte was exactly 3 weeks later, which will give me an extra week to recover.

Ironman 70.3 Florida 2015

’ve only done one Half Ironman in my life, and that was Ironman 70.3 Miami in October 2012. When I finished it I thought I’d never do a long distance triathlon again and that I’d only focus on running, until 2014 when I changed my mind.

Last year I signed up for another Half Ironman distance triathlon (70.3 miles) and half way through the training I decided I was not going to do it. I always encourage everyone around here to never give up but, when my head was focused on the NYC Marathon, the time spent swimming and biking felt more like a task.

Publix Savannah Women’s Half 2015

The inaugural Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon & 5K weekend quickly arrived and what a blast we had!

I’ve enjoyed every single part of the event from the moment I got involved with it. New Balance, one of the main sponsors, had an awesome presence throughout the whole process and treated us, ambassadors, like queens (yes, this means we got all sort of awesome gear!)

Palmetto Bluff Half Marathon 2015

At the beginning of the year I went to Palmetto Bluff, SC to work with Bobby for a few hours. From the moment we drove into the neighborhood I was in love. Everything is so beautiful and green. There are lakes, beautiful homes, running trails, endless biking routes, a hotel and restaurants… “Why don’t we move here?” I asked. Yes, that’s how much I like it.

After admiring how beautiful that place is I remembered that there’s a half marathon there and I realized right away that I wanted to run it. The whole thing is that I’m training for an Ironman 70.3 so most of my weekends are dedicated to biking. I was already doing the Tybee Island Half Marathon and I’m doing the Publix Savannah Women’s Half so that’s two weekends where I’m not biking as much as I should.

Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K

For 2015 I have many fitness goals: I want to complete my second Ironman 70.3, I want to run my 6th marathon and I want to race in a few half marathons, among them the inaugural Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K, which I’m extremely excited about.

When I first heard about this race I knew I was going to sign up right away. Why? Here’re some of the reasons:
